Alps to Ocean Cycleway,
Mt Cook To Twizel

Part of the new Alps to Ocean Cycleway is already operational from Twizel. In an initiative with Meridian Energy, a 2.3km cycleway now runs along State Highway 8 past the Twizel township to Meridian's Twizel office, taking in views of Southern Alps along the way. This is the first step in the local leg of the National Cycleway that will eventually run from Mt Cook, through Twizel down to Omaru. It links two existing tracks, the Te Araroa tramping trail and the Twizel River Trail, making it ideal both for local cycling enthusiasts and for visitors to the Mt Cook Mackenzie Region.
